Accreditations

Six accreditations.
One report.
Every test.

Surface Performance Ltd (UKAS Testing Laboratory No. 7933) holds the accreditations and recognitions that matter for indoor sport. Most competitors hold none.

The hierarchy

Not all certifications are equal.

There are three categories of credential a slip-testing provider can hold: government-recognised technical accreditation (UKAS), industry-body recognition (UKSRG, FA, ITF, World Rugby, FIFA), and self-certified marketing badges. Only the first two carry weight in litigation, insurance, or governing-body procurement. We hold the first two. We do not display the third.

Each accreditation below is independently auditable. Our UKAS schedule is published on the UKAS website. Our governing-body recognitions are listed in the public registers of the bodies concerned.

Tier 1 — Technical accreditation
UKAS
Lab No. 7933
ISO/IEC 17025:2017

United Kingdom Accreditation Service

UKAS is the sole accreditation body recognised by the UK Government to assess testing laboratories against ISO/IEC 17025:2017 — the international standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Surface Performance Ltd has held UKAS accreditation since 2013 under Schedule No. 7933 for slip resistance testing under BS 7976-2 and BS EN 16165 Annex C.

UKAS accreditation is renewed annually through on-site assessment and proficiency testing. The accreditation covers method, equipment, calibration, technician competence and quality-management processes. We are one of only three UK sports laboratories holding UKAS accreditation for slip resistance testing.

Reports issued under our schedule carry the UKAS endorsement mark. Unendorsed reports from non-accredited providers do not.

Tier 2 — Governing-body recognition

Recognition by the bodies that regulate the sports played on the surfaces we test.

ITF — International Tennis Federation

ITF Recognition assessor

Surface Performance is an ITF-recognised testing organisation, eligible to conduct One-Star and Two-Star ITF Recognition assessments on indoor and outdoor tennis courts. Court Pace Rating, planarity, line-marking and surface conformity tested to the ITF Guide to Test Methods for Tennis Court Surfaces.

UKSRG — UK Slip Resistance Group

Member laboratory

The UKSRG is the UK’s authoritative industry body on slip resistance test methodology and interpretation. Our reports apply UKSRG guidance on test condition selection, sample sizing, and PTV-to-risk classification.

The FA — Football Association

FA-accredited test institute

Surface Performance is an FA-accredited test institute for FA 3G Pitch Performance testing across the UK. The same calibration and quality systems apply across our indoor sports surface testing programme.

World Rugby

Recognised testing organisation

Surface Performance is a World Rugby-recognised testing organisation for Regulation 22 testing of artificial rugby surfaces. The technician training pipeline that supports World Rugby testing also supports our sports hall surveys.

FIFA

FIFA-accredited testing laboratory

Surface Performance holds FIFA accreditation as a product testing laboratory. The discipline that comes with FIFA Quality and FIFA Quality Pro testing — data integrity, witnessed testing, full audit trail — carries through into every survey we issue.

FIH / ITF / Others

Wider sports surface scope

Where indoor surface testing intersects with hockey, padel, multi-sport or other governing-body requirements, we coordinate test scope across standards in a single survey rather than running parallel tests.

Why “UKAS-style”, “ISO-equivalent” and “industry-leading” mean nothing.

If a slip-testing provider held UKAS accreditation, they would lead with the lab number. They wouldn’t. Phrases to be wary of on competitor websites:

  • “UKAS-equivalent quality systems” — meaning not UKAS accredited.
  • “Tested to UKAS standards” — meaningless. UKAS doesn’t set test standards.
  • “ISO 9001 certified” — quality-management certificate. Not a technical accreditation.
  • “Member of the UKSRG” alone — useful, but does not certify technical competence in testing.
  • “Industry-leading” — self-issued.
One question to ask any slip-testing provider “What is your UKAS testing laboratory schedule number?” If they don’t have one, they are not a UKAS-accredited testing laboratory. Surface Performance Ltd’s schedule number is 7933.
